Weekly Holiday Pay in Korea: A Complete Guide to Calculating Your 주휴수당
Korea's 주휴수당 (juhusu-dang) — weekly holiday pay — is a legally mandated benefit that many workers don't know they're entitled to, and that many employers quietly omit from paychecks.
Under Article 55 of the Labor Standards Act, any worker who meets two conditions is entitled to one paid day off per week — and the pay for that day is called 주휴수당.
Who qualifies?
- Works 15 or more hours per week (based on contracted hours, not hours worked)
- Attends all contracted workdays in that week (authorized leave generally counts as attendance)
This applies regardless of job type: full-time, part-time, or casual hourly work. Convenience store workers, café employees, restaurant staff — all qualify if they meet the conditions.
How to calculate it
주휴수당 = (Weekly contracted hours ÷ 40) × 8 × Hourly wage
At Korea's 2026 minimum wage of ₩10,030:
| Work hours/week | 주휴수당 |
|---|---|
| 40 hours | ₩80,240 |
| 30 hours | ₩60,180 |
| 15 hours | ₩30,090 |
A part-time worker at minimum wage working 30 hours/week who isn't receiving 주휴수당 is missing approximately ₩240,000 per month — or ₩3,000,000 per year.

If you're not receiving it
File a report with the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) online at minwon.moel.go.kr, or call ☎1350. Prepare your employment contract, pay stubs, and any work records. MOEL will issue a correction order to the employer; non-compliance leads to fines and possible criminal liability.
Knowing what you're owed is the first step to receiving it.
